About Your Teacher
I am very excited to be your child's teacher this year. This is my 35th year at EPHS, where I serve as a math teacher and the department chairman. I received my B.S. in Mathematics & German Education, from the University of Northern Iowa in 1988, and my M.A.T. in Mathematics Teaching, from UTEP in 2005. I also mentor prospective teachers through the MaST Academy, at UTEP.
Classroom Expectations
The students in my class are expected to be in class, on time, and ready to learn. They will be expected to be active participants in class lessons, discussions, and group work. Math is not a spectator sport! They should follow the EPISD student code of conduct, as well as my
R^3 model.
1. Respect for others
2. Respect for self
3. Responsibility for actions

2023-24 Goals
It is expected that all students enrolled in my classes will perform at high levels in class and on standardized tests. All students in my Pre Calculus Course will be expected to put forth the effort necessary to be prepared to succeed in subsequent math courses. (Calculus, Stats, etc...) My Calculus students are expected to attend all prep sessions for the AP exam and to strive to achieve a qualifying score (3, 4, or 5) on the AB/BC exams. Emphasis should be placed on understanding the concepts, their representations, and how to apply them, as opposed to memorizing information.
